Basic Safety Training 

GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) is the core safety programme for wind technicians. It covers the key hazards and emergency response skills needed to work safely in wind turbines, including first aid, manual handling, fire awareness and working at heights. Each module is valid for 24 months and is recorded on WINDA.

This combined course delivers two essential GWO modules over 2 out of the 5 course days, equipping participants with the skills to work safely at height and perform manual handling tasks correctly. Ideal for wind industry technicians starting their training journey..

Working at Heights

GWO Working at Heights

Designed for technicians working in remote wind turbine environments, this module delivers practical and theoretical training in basic PPE use, safe working-at-height procedures, and comprehensive basic rescue from height. The focus is on building safe, consistent working practices. It is not an evaluation of an individual’s suitability for heights and is not intended to assess fear of heights.

  • Assessment: Theory & Practical (75% pass mark)

  • Format: Fixed facility, mobile trailer, or on-site delivery

Prerequisites: This Training module does not have requirements it is required to have reasonable fitness levels, a valid occupational medical certificate or willing to sign a Medical Disclaimer form before training. 

Manual Handling

GWO Manual Handling

This module provides practical and theoretical training in safe lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and task planning. The focus is on reducing the risk of musculoskeletal injuries through correct technique, better body mechanics, and consistent safe handling habits.

Fire Awareness

GWO Fire Awareness

This module covers fire prevention, fire behaviour, and safe response actions in wind turbine environments. The focus is on early hazard recognition, correct use of firefighting equipment where appropriate, and safe decision-making during fire-related incidents.

GWO First Aid

Be prepared to respond to medical emergencies on wind farms. This GWO-certified module runs for 2 out of the 5 course days and covers life-saving first aid, CPR, AED use, bleeding control, and incident management with a focus on wind industry environments.
